CALOUNDRA CHRISTIAN COLLEGE LIBRARY
As part of Guymer Bailey’s long-standing relationship with Caloundra Christian College (CCC), we were asked to design the new school library, which would become a key component in the transformation of the College’s identity.
Innovative in design, the library facilitates a new-generation of learning strategies for CCC staff and students with a mix of technological and traditional teaching environments. Formed concrete voids link the lower and upper floors, while coloured glass louvres and multi-coloured furnishings contribute to the vibrancy of the spaces, creating a warm, user-friendly environment.
A major feature of the building is the tiered 75-seat auditorium, which follows the site’s sloping topography. The strong form of the folding roof creates a distinctive entrance to the library and allows for natural sunlight to enter the space while protecting occupants from the western sun. The roof design also serves a sustainable purpose, enabling the collection of rainwater for reuse.
