Moreton Bay Regional Council asked Guymer Bailey Architects to design the Ferny Hills Aquatic Centre Program Pool to provide year-round pool access for general community use, and the learn to swim and rehabilitation programs.

Replacing the old 25-metre pool, the new design integrates with the existing facilities by using simple low maintenance and durable finishes that can be brought through to the planned splash pad area. Large colourful openings to the south allow for light and transparency through the Centre while the site layout allows for both clear lines of sight across the pool areas.

Taking into consideration the high condensation and odour that occurs with indoor heated pools, a natural ventilation system was installed and connected to the building management system to maintain and adjust airflow during periods of high condensation and humidity. Airflow can be achieved actively through the mechanical ventilation system or passively through the opening of louvres. Efficient heating and regenerative filters were also selected to ensure considerable water and energy savings for the life of the pool.
