MARK McKINLAY | Architectural Team

MELBOURNE

1.  What is your nickname? Marky-moo / Marky Mark / Mark-Murphy

2.  Who is your favourite Architect / Designer? Lately it’s been Go Hasegawa or Kengo Kuma. I share Kengo Kuma’s love of sticks. His collaborative piece in the NGV triennial was pretty spectacular too.

3.  What do you love most about the design profession?  Designing spaces with end-users in mind- specific spaces designed for specific people.

4.  What would you like to do that you haven’t yet? There’s a lot of bands that I haven’t seen live yet that I need to get around to ticking off. Radiohead, Alexisonfire, Periphery to name a few.

5. What place is on your bucket list to travel to? England + Ireland would be nice.

6. If you were a superhero, who would you be? Powdered Toast Man

7.  What is your hobby? Lately I’ve been streaming games online - there's a lot to learn and it’s fun interacting with people and sharing something I enjoy. I’m also pretty into movies - the good ones and especially the bad ones.

8. What’s your favourite T.V show? The Simpsons raised me growing up, so I'm obliged to put it first. But I love Documental and The Micallef Programme too.

9. What is your ‘spirit animal’? I didn’t know I had one! Maybe it’s a red panda? They’re pretty great.

10. If you could only keep 5 possessions what would they be? My very lovely pooch (is he a possession? He’s kind of family), wedding photos, Nintendo Switch, record collection, manga collection (‘collections’ is a pretty good way of cheating this question, isn’t it?).

11. What is your most valuable professional quality? Approachable! I mean to be, anyway. I'd like to think I’m pretty open and available for people to ask questions at any time. I’m definitely not scary or intimidating.

12. What does a perfect day look like to you? Hanging out with a group of friends, video games and drinking. Yikes, I might still be a teenager.

13. What movie can you watch over and over again? vent of the past, present, or future, what would it be? Most of them - I love movies! I don’t think I could ever get bored of Spirited Away and Pulp Fiction. I could probably watch any Tarantino or Jorgas film over and over and still enjoy them.
